RESPONSIBILITIES: Work closely with polymer synthesis and drug development groups to identify design, prepare and test controlled release formulations. Testing to include: in vitro techniques through in vivo. Provide feedback to polymer synthesis group for functionality modifications. Present and communicate status to collaborative partners and project team members.

TITLE: Postdoctoral Fellow -Polymer

EDUCATION: Ph.D. in chemistry, engineering or materials science.

EXPERIENCE: Knowledge and utilization of common computer software (word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics) are required. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be flexible and willing to work in a matrix organization of functional groups and project teams. Must be comfortable in the role of an interdisciplinary team member.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The scientist will be expected to synthesize and characterize polymers with unique properties for medical applications and to devise and execute experimental plans. Experience and knowledge of hydrogels would be advantageous. Must be able to characterize organic compounds and polymers using common chromatographic, thermal and spectroscopic techniques (GPC, HPLC, DSC, TGA, XRD, FTIR, NMR, etc.). Knowledge of drug delivery, common polymer processing techniques or the interfacial properties of composites would be a plus. Must be capable to review, analyze, and interpret research data, make technical decisions, write research reports, and make oral presentations. Other responsibilities include performing literature searches, recording experiments and observations, purchasing, maintaining and operating laboratory equipment, interpreting and summarizing data, identifying and recommending solutions to problems, fabricating prototypes for in vitro or in vivo testing, cross training other scientists, linking new developments in the biomedical field to project work, establishing relationships or collaborative programs with universities or small companies, generating new ideas andconcepts leading to patent applications, and writing publications.

TITLE: Scientist or Engineer, at any level ranging from entry-level to Principal

EDUCATION: Ph.D. in an area related to one or more of the following: Biomedical Instrumentation, Medical Optics, Biomaterials, Implants, Tissue Engineering

EXPERIENCE: Advanced level expertise in more than one of above mentioned areas. Ability to quickly learn and assess new technologies. The candidates should have a broad background rather than a narrow focus and an aptitude for commercialization of new technologies rather than academic research. Previous medical device industry experience will be a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Growth Technologies/New Business Development group within Ethicon is committed to an aggressive pursuit of cutting edge technologies. Our mission is to help Ethicon grow its business in a variety of surgical and peri-operative areas, at the same time making sure that Ethicon maintains its worldwide dominance in the wound closure market. Our efforts to diversify have resulted in new business units such as women’s health and sports medicine.

As a part of the Growth Technologies group, the candidate will be challenged to constantly explore new technologies. In support of the various new business development initiatives, the candidate will conduct technology assessment, patent assessment, feasibility studies and lead the due diligence process in certain areas.
