Ocean Station and Surface Meteorology Data from the Atlantic, the Coast of Guinea, the Black Sea and the Indian Ocean
Entry ID:
Ukraine_UAS_MHI_OCEAN_STATION
Ocean Station data, as well as some meterological data, are available from four regions as indicated below:
FILE: The Atlantic, from 20 South to 60 N
Vertical profiles of oceanographic features for 1900-1991. Oceanographic data include temperature and salinity recording at standard depths or with a resolution of 5m and ... hydrochemical data. There are 80,000 stations.
FILE: The Black Sea (General)
Vertical profiles of oceanographic features for 1910-1992; meteorological observations at coastal stations for 1984-1991; hydrochemical observations for 1930-1992. There are 65,000 stations.
Oceanographic data include temperature and salinity recording at standard depths using bathometers or Istok instruments with a resolution of 5m. Meteorological observations include wind velocity and wind direction, air temperature and air humidity, air pressure, etc.
In addition, there are two more data sets available at the Ukrainian Academy of Science's MHI. First, transparency has been measured with Secchi disk and water colour by Forel-Ule's colour scale (3500 stations). Measurements were made from MHI's ships and others from 1923 to 1992. Second, vertical transparency profiles have been taken at individual wave lengths from 405-465mm up to 100-400m using sounding transparency meters designed at MGI. There are 1500 such profiles, taken between 1976 and 1992.
FILE: The Black Sea (The 1994 Interkosmos Experiment)
Data from the Interkosmos experiment were collected in the northwest Black Sea. Oceanographic data were taken at 36 stations at 5m intervals to a depth of 100m. Principal parameters are transparency, temperature, salinity, and chlorophyll-a content. For a number of stations, data are available for colour index, transparency measured with Secchi disk, sea radiance index spectra, diffuse reflectance, vertical attenuation co-efficient, non-organic phosphorus content, atmospheric transparency spectra, sea surface irradiance spectra, sky brightness indicatrix. For a number of stations, complementary aircraft data are available for sea radiance spectra measured at different altitudes.
FILE: Hydrological, Hydrochemical and Hydro-optical Features for Coastal Guinea (including estuaries)
Hydro-optical, hydrological, chemical and biological features were obtained from 670 surface stations (1980-1986). The principal parameters are transparency measured with Secchi disk, temperature and salinity. Complementary parameters are Si, suspended matter, chlorophyll-a, seston; water colour, colour indices for 6 spectral bands at standard depths from one to four.
In addition, data is available from 1,400 stations at selected depths (1981-1987). The principal parameters are temperature, and salinity. Complementary parameters are dissolved oxygen, phosphates, silicates, pH, and alkalinity.
FILE: The Indian Ocean
Vertical profiles of oceanographic features for 1970-1990. Oceanographic data include temperature and salinity recording at standard depths or with a resolution of 5m and hydrochemical data. There are 3,000 stations. Geographic Coverage
