Washington — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol arrested an individual wanted for questioning by Canadian and U.S. authorities for several murders that took place in Nova Scotia, Canada and New York.

The arrest occurred at noon, on May 15, south of Harlingen, Texas when a Border Patrol agent assigned to the Harlingen Border Patrol station responded to suspicious activity near the Rio Grande River.
Border Patrol officials in Texas address media questions on the arrest of a fugitive wanted for murder.
The agent encountered a white male, later identified as Glen Douglas Race and questioned him as to his citizenship. During the field interview Race claimed to be a Canadian citizen. The agent noticed a rifle in the bag Race had in his possession and reached to secure it. A struggle ensued and the agent wrestled Race to the ground. Race was arrested and transported to the Harlingen Border Patrol station for processing. The agent was treated and released for minor injuries received during the arrest.

Once at the station, a records check on the rifle indicated that it had been stolen from the scene of a homicide in Mooers, NY. Race was also in possession of property belonging to the homicide victim, Darcy R. Manor. New York State Police were contacted and indicated that Race is a suspect in the homicide and have made arrangements to interview the subject for possible extradition to New York. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was also contacted and will be coordinating those efforts.

On May 10, Swanton Sector Border Patrol agents provided assistance to the New York State Police in their investigation into the homicide of Darcy R. Manor by responding to the command post in Mooers, NY. Agents assisted New York State Police in the ground search and the Plattsburg CBP Air Branch provided aerial support during the initial investigation.

To report suspicious activity, contact the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sectors’ toll free telephone number at 1-800-863-9382.
