Institutional partnership for nutritional improvement of people living with HIV/AIDS.

Background: Before the necessity to improve the health of the PVVS in Honduras that received the antiretroviral therapy, it was constitute an ALLIANCE between Care International, the World-wide Food Program, the Secretary of Health, the National Association of People Living with the HIV/AIDS and UNAIDS. The project was named IMANAS, the first in Honduras, it has as purpose improve the quality of life in 600 homes of people living with the HIV/AIDS. Methodology: The Project has two components: 1) A strategy of information, education and communication that is implemented by PLWAs voluntiers for groups that support themselves that develop these issues: a) Safe Water b) Hygiene c) Nutrition and feeding d) Adhesion to medicines and e) Basic Council. 2) A Program Nutricional and Alimentary that has the following components: a) Safe water; promoving the use of ultra-violet rayses for desinfect water b)Deliver the basic basket that it includes: beans, rice, corn flour, flour of wheat, sugar, vegetal oil and products derived from soya. They are beneficiaries of this alimentary assitance, in his first phase there are 300 homes of PLWA in difficult economic situation and with problems of undernourishment. Results: 1. Greater tolerance to antiretrovirales medicines. 2. Increasement of the number of PVVS recovered by undernourishment. 3. Increasement of the assitance to the school of children living in homes affected by the epidemic. Conclusions: At 4 months to execute the project, the results and testimonies of the positive effect of the alimentary assitance are considerable, reason because is recommended the extension of the cover to all the homes of people living with the HIV/ADIS receiving the antiretroviral therapy in the country. The project has placed in the national agenda the high-priority necessities of the families affected by the epidemic of the HIV/AIDS.
