Description/Abstract The tuberculin reaction mechanism is studied by radioisotopic approach. Two methods of labeling are tried, one of them concerned with cultivation in Sauton's medium containing Fe-59, P-32, or S-35, and the other with the exposure of purified tuberculin powder to neutron beam. Among the radioactivities of tuberculins obtained from the culture filtrates, S-35-labeled tuberculin is much stronger than the others. No difference is observed in biological potency between the irradiated tuberculin and the ordinary tuberculin. The purified tuberculin treated by the latter method is radioactive with respect to the exposure time, and the tuberculin thus labeled maintains its biological activity. Biological- and radioactive-tuberculin may be obtained by these two methods. (T.F.H.)
