Al2O3 SCALE MICROSTRUCTURES ON CVD NiAl AND NiPtAl AFTER 100-h
ISOTHERMAL OXIDATION (FIB-PREPARED TEM SECTIONS)


100 h, 1150°C
  • NiAl: Scales were thinner than on NiPtAl, with larger diameter (~2.0 µm) grains.
  • NiPtAl: Scales were thicker and bi-layered.  The outer layer of scale was equiaxed, with a larger grain size.  The inner layer of Al2O3 exhibited a smaller grain diameter (~0.6 µm) and a columnar grain structure.
