Bacterial lipopolysaccharides are known to contain two monosaccharides with more than six carbons in their skeleton. These are a seven carbon aldose (L-glycero-D-manno-Aldoheptose) and an eight carbon ketose (2-keto-3-deoxy-octulosonic acid).
