Seton Hall's Whitehead School of Diplomacy Visits Cyprus

As part of their Cyprus Studies Seminar, 30-plus students and faculty from the U.S.' Seton Hall University Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations visited Cyprus the week of March 6.

In addition to meeting with leaders of all sectors across the island arranged by the School, on March 7, the U.S. Embassy hosted a bicommunal student roundtable, a briefing by U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus Ronald Schlicher and Embassy sections, and a student-to-student reception.

With the help of AMIDEAST, Embassy organized a six-person panel -three Greek Cypriot and three Turkish Cypriot university students-to talk about their joint experience in America on a U.S. Embassy Bicommunal Support Program and about their joint activities since returning to divided Cyprus. The briefing by the Ambassador and Embassy sections explored substantive policy issues in the U.S.-Cyprus relationship and described the inner workings of an embassy. The Whitehead undergraduate and graduate students are the next generation of U.S. diplomats.

The evening's reception at the Ambassador's Residence linked this cohort of future diplomats to the next generation of Cypriot leaders, including principally university students from across the island.
