Rescue Beacon Saves Illegal Alien Left in Ariz. Desert

contacts for this news releaseTucson, Ariz. — On Saturday, a Border Patrol rescue beacon located west of State Route 85, was activated at about 3:30 p.m. Agents encountered one male individual with mild dehydration, who was lost after he was abandoned by the guides of his group.The rescued man was discovered to be a Mexican National who entered the United States illegally. The man stated he activated the rescue beacon after he was abandoned by his group for not being able to keep up with the rest. The man claimed he was lost for a day and a half without water. The rescue beacon and the timely rescue by Tucson sector Border Patrol agents ultimately saved the man’s life. With all the elements compounding the negative effects on the subject, he could have easily died. In the past five months the Tucson sector Border Patrol has rescued over 90 individuals from the treacherous terrain of the Sonoran Desert.U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
