As a Pilot for United Airlines, I am concerned that allowing an additional airline to start up in the current economic environment could be very detrimental to established U.S. airlines. Also, it sets a very dangerous precedent when you consider the "made in china" challenge for America. I believe that U.S. airlines can compete in any "fair" market place. However, U.S. airlines are still in the process of recovering from over capacity and a sputtering economy. There are still thousands of pilots on furlough and most companies are losing money or in bankruptcy. This is simply a bad time to add another airline to the mix, especially if it does not have to meet the normal review process all new entrants have had to follow. At the very least, Virgin should have to be vetted within the structure of a full procedure and should not be allowed to rush through the approval process in an expedited manner. There are too many questions which need to be answered for the process to be abbreviated in the way that Mr. Branson and his investors desire.
