USDA Rural Development provided a 0% interest loan to Brown-Atchison Electric Cooperative Assoc., Inc. so that they could provide a 0% interest pass-through loan for the Hiawatha Community Hospital renovation project in Hiawatha, KS.

Rural Development funds were used to assist the Hiawatha Hospital in financing the renovation of the hospital which allowed for space to be available for expanded clinical services.

This hospital has been in operation since 1951. The Hiawatha Hospital has 42 rooms for acute care and 6 rooms with bassinet beds. The renovation added 10 jobs, with the hospital currently employing over 122 full time personnel. The hospital primarily serves the Brown County, Kansas area with some patients also coming from the surrounding counties.
