The rocks highlighted here date from the early part of the Tertiary Period, from 66 million years ago to 38 million years ago. The Tertiary is divided into epochs, the two oldest of which are shown here; the Eocene (54 to 38 million years ago) and the Paleocene (66 to 54 million years ago).
