Understanding photoionization of RO2 radicals David L. Osborn Alkyl peroxy radicals are important players in the oxidation of hydrocarbons in the atmosphere and in low-temperature combustion environments. Despite the importance of these species, the ionization energies of CH3O2 and C2H5O2, the simplest alkyl peroxy radicals, are not known. We have recently completed a study using the new Multiplexed Chemical Kinetics Photoionization Mass Spectrometer on the ionization of these two radicals. We have obtained photoionization efficiencies curves for both radicals, which differ greatly in their behavior. More information will be appearing soon on this system. |
