U.S. Embassy’s “Span” Magazine Goes Online For Hindi, Urdu Readers

Articles & Photos Will Also Be Available Free For Syndication

LUCKNOW--The Hindi and Urdu editions of the American Embassy’s prestigious magazine SPAN will now be available online, it was announced here today. The flagship English edition has already been online for some time.

The bimonthly features magazine, popularly known as “India’s window to America,” will be available on the U.S. Embassy’s website. To access it, readers can to click on: http://usembassy.state.gov/posts/in1/wwwhspan.html.

Speaking at the U.P. Press Club, Karen Keshap, Assistant Information Officer, U.S. Embassy, said that in addition to providing the editions online, SPAN would make all original articles and photos from all three editions of the magazine available for free reprint in Indian publications.

Ms. Keshap said: “SPAN is trying to reach out to new readers. Articles from the Hindi and Urdu November-December 2005 editions are now available to readers in PDF format at the click of a button. This format retains the rich experience of reading a beautifully designed magazine and provides the convenience of free online access.” SPAN Urdu Editor Anjum Naim and SPAN Business Manager R. Narayan were also present at the event.

SPAN is participating in the ongoing Urdu Book Fair in Lucknow and has a stall for information and subscriptions. SPAN will also have a stall at the International Book Fair in New Delhi, starting January 27, 2006.

The English edition of SPAN has a proud 45-year history of providing a glimpse into American life and society, and highlighting areas of U.S.-India collaborations in all spheres of activity: government, business, the social sector, the arts, science and technology.

With a view to reaching a wider audience, editions in Hindi and Urdu were launched in March 2003. More than 60,000 copies of SPAN are being circulated in English, Hindi and Urdu all across India.
