Mississippi Ag Report Volume 06-17 Released: August 23, 2006 This report is best viewed with a monospace font. Featured Statistics: Cattle Death Loss, by Cause Farm Production Expenditures Pasture Cash Rent Highlights In addition to information on cash rents and farm production expenditures, this issue of the Ag Report provides detail statistics of cattle death loss by cause. In setting the predator and non-predator loss estimates, first total predator and non-predator losses were estimated as a percent of total losses, then specific predator and non- predator losses were estimated as a percent of total predator and non-predator losses. There is also a table containing information on non-lethal methods used to prevent losses of cattle and calves to predators. Data presented in this report on cattle death loss by cause and prevention is released as a cooperative effort between the National Agricultural Statistics Service and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service - Wildlife Services and Veterinary Services. A random sample of U.S. producers was surveyed to provide data for these estimates. Survey procedures ensured that all cattle producers, regardless of size, had a chance to be included in the survey. Large producers were sampled more heavily than small operations.
