Window on America(WOA)

What is Window on America?

Patrick Joseph Linehan, Minister-Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul

“Window on America” (WoA) began in 2005 as an information outreach initiative. WoA provides U.S. Government publications - available in both English and Korean - to well-known institutions throughout Korea.

WoA works as an ongoing partnership between the U.S. Embassy Seoul and the hosting institution which provides materials to that location. The hosting institution offers an ideal place for the publications, and maintains the WoA bookshelves. The Embassy is responsible for providing the materials.

Forty-one "Window on America" book-shelves are currently established throughout the Korean peninsula. An electronic version of the WoA map is available for those who want to locate a Window on America nearby.

The Embassy also presents “e-Window on America,” an online library for U.S. Government publications. While “WoA” physically serves as an information outreach project, “e-WoA” maintains the information on the web for a greater audience with internet access.

Both WoA and e-WoA are designed to reach out to the public and provide them with a closer look into the United States. The Embassy hopes that these programs will help better the understandings between Korea and the United States.
