INDIVIDUAL PLEADS GUILTY TO BANK ROBBERY

March 17, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dunn Lampton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi, announced that Langcola Mouton, a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, pled guilty Friday to an indictment charging her with bank robbery with the use of a dangerous weapon. Langcola Mouton pled guilty to taking part in the armed bank robbery of BankPlus in Clinton, Mississippi on December 20, 2007. Another defendant is awaiting trial.

On December 20, 2007, Langcola Mouton drove a white Toyota Camry with two male individuals to the BankPlus located at 217 Clinton Boulevard, in Clinton, Mississippi. On arrival, Mouton stayed in the car as the getaway drive, while the male individuals robbed the bank. The males entered the bank wearing ski masks and carrying a .40 caliber Glock and a .38 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol. Once inside, they jumped the counter, ordered everyone to get on the ground, called out the time in order to leave within 45 seconds, and took $31,950. They exited the bank, got into the getaway car and fled the scene of the crime. Shortly thereafter, Mouton wrecked the getaway car and they fled on foot. Several law enforcement agencies were in pursuit of these individuals and Langcola Mouton was arrested by the Clinton Police Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Law enforcement agents recovered a .40 caliber Glock pistol and $30,907 from the surrounding area.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jerry Abdalla. Langcola Mouton will be sentenced before U.S. District Judge Tom S. Lee on June 6, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. The maximum penalty for this offense is twenty-five years in prison and a $250,000.00 fine.
