Mr.
Edward Wharton,
who had been for a long period attached to the office in Washington,
died suddenly at Baltimore, on the 15th of January. In the general
oversight of work in the engraving division, and previously
in the discharge of clerical duties connected with that branch
of the office, he was conscientious and methodical. Mr. Wharton
had won general esteem by his gentleness and urbanity.
