Homeland Security starts in our Hometown! You can become a Citizen Corps Member, trained to help your family and neighborhood during emergencies and disasters, through free, specialized training sessions being offered by the City of Orlando. Training programs will educate you in the important elements of hometown security, including: *Disaster Preparedness * Emergency Response * Detection and Prevention of Crime The following training programs are available: -Citizens for Neighborhood Watch A community involvement program, which directly involves citizens in the detection and prevention of crime. -Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) A program that trains citizens to keep themselves, their families, and neighbors safe during a disaster until professional help can arrive. -Citizen Fire Academy A program that offers a close-up look at the complexities of the Orlando Fire Department and equips citizens with life-saving information. -Citizen Observer Program A cadre of trained volunteers who help the Orlando Police Department by monitoring neighborhoods, alerting the police to hazards and unlawful behavior and assisting with police reports. -Citizen Police Academy A program that educates citizens about police work, from how police patrol neighborhoods to tactics used in high-risk incidents.
