Washington, DC- U.S. Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) announced today that he was successful in securing $183,733 for Briar Cliff University’s Departments of Psychology and Biology. This funding was made available by the U.S. Department of Education at congressional direction in the 2008 comprehensive spending package.  Harkin is the Chairman of the Senate panel that funds education initiatives.

“It is absolutely essential to have the most up-to-date equipment and technology in the classrooms where the next generation of healthcare professionals is learning,” said Harkin. “These upgrades will enhance their learning experience and ensure the best possible care for Iowa patients.”

Specifically, these funds will be used for purchasing equipment for three biology laboratories and equipment to better prepare students in the mental health care professions, nursing and other healthcare-relation fields.
