Various Dorm Areas [All photos provided by courtesy of Job Corps center operators under contract to the US Department of Labor]

Campus Living represents a student home away from home setting. Here students learn to care for themselves and his/her home. The college style dormitory setting is where you will live on center and enjoy the company of other students. Students will, with the help of staff and other students help create a fun, safe, and clean atmosphere for yourself and others by cooperating and communicating.

In the living area, students live and interact with other students from various social religious and ethic backgrounds. Each dorm has a lounge where students can relax, watch TV, read, study and take part in other social activities. Each dorm also has a kitchen equipped with a microwave, stove, a refrigerator, and ice machine.

Students usually have three roommates. However, by advancing through our leadership program, students can earn semi-private or private rooms. Each student has a bed with under bed storage for persona; belongings as well as a personal closet. Each room has a reading table and an alarm clock.

A Resident Advisor supervises each dorm. Counselors and other staff are available.

Dorm Rooms

Most Guthrie Job Corps trainee live in four person rooms. Female trainees live in rooms that are arranged differently and provide more privacy and have in-room bathrooms and showers. Men and women reside in separate dorms. Staff resident advisors supervise each dorm. Trainees are responsible for the cleanliness of their room and common dorm areas. There are room inspections every day.

Dorm Meetings

Dorm meetings give trainees and staff the opportunity to talk and exchange information. Meetings are held in the dorm after classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. This is where trainees will learn about upcoming events, recreation activities, medical appointment for the following day, how to get passes to go home on weekends or holidays, when and where you will get paid, hear the mail list, and who class absences.

Curfews

Trainees will be living busy life at the Guthrie Job Corp Center. Curfew and lights out are mandatory because rest and sleep are just as important as education and learning.

Dorm Duties

A student dorm is a residence, which must be kept clean and orderly. It is the student's responsibility to make sure it is kept in good order.

Laundry Facilities

Laundry facilities are available for student use in each dormitory. Laundry detergent and machine use is free.

Mail

Mail is delivered and picked up every weekday at the Guthrie Post Office. Residential Advisors will notify you at the dorm meeting if you have mail and the mail list will be posted outside of the mailroom and in your dorm every afternoon. The Center post office is open between 4:30 P.M. and 5:00 P.M., Monday thru Friday.

Church Services

There are no church services held on Center. If a student is interested in attending services on Sunday, the center will provide transportation to the church of your choice in the immediate Guthrie area.

Independent Living Skills

The Independent Living Skills Program is set up to prepare students on how to deal with life's real, everyday problems and decisions. This program will help individuals learn and practice positive communication skills or problem solving.
