Taxonomic Comments<i>Epioblasma </i>is comprised of several recognized forms (<i>torulosa</i>, <i>gubernaculum</i>, <i>rangiana</i>, and <i>cincinnatiensis</i>), but it is not clear whether these forms represent ecophenotypic variation, true subspecies, or a species complex. The entire species group exhibits considerable ecophenotypic variation. <i>Epioblasma </i>was formerly placed in the genera <i>Unio</i>, <i>Truncilla</i>, and <i>Dysnomia</i>. This entity may have been part of the <i>Epioblasma torulosa</i> complex (see Watters, 1995).
