Speaker Biography: Pat Mora, an award-winning author of children's books, poetry and nonfiction, speaks often at conferences, universities, and schools about the writing process, multicultural education, family literacy and leadership. Committed to fostering "bookjoy," she founded El dia de los ninos/El dia de los libros, Children's Day/Book Day, the April 30th celebration of childhood, books, languages and cultures. Her book, "A Library for Juana: The World of Sor Juana Inez" (English and Spanish editions), received the 2003 Tomas Rivera Mexican American Children's Book Award, and ""Maria Paints the Hills" was a finalist for the Texas Institute of Letters Best Children's Book. Her most recent book is "Dona Flor" (Knopf, 2005), an original tall tale. Mora lives in New Mexico.
