Some Observations
We had access to a lot of electronics engineering but not much mechanical engineering
While many costs inflate, because BTeV relies on so many
high tech components, many costs follow sharply downward
trends -- e.g. FPGAs, DSPs, optic links, memory, CPUs, etc.
BTeV is in many physical ways more similar to a fixed target experiment than a collider experiment -- fewer mechanical constraints, more openness, ease of installation, lack of coupling between components
This gives stageability, scope contingency, phased installation
To overcome this, we exploit analogies to other efforts
