The Raman Lidar Instrument was successfully activated this week, although some problems with the Laser were encountered. T/S Tuesday found although the beam steering interface unit was indicating normal operation, the actual control signals were not being sent to the antenna. The cause of this was inside the interface unit and it was sent back to Radian for repair. The 50 WP will be off line until the unit is returned. BBSS: Barry Lesht (ANL) and Chris Keenan of Vaisala will be visiting all of the SGP CART sites during the first week of October to perform fine tuning of the Vaisala BBSS systems. Whole Sky Imager: Scripps Loaner Instrument: This instrument was removed from service on 9/20 by the mentor. SGP CART Instrument: Operational during the reporting period. One of the data tape drives failed during system acceptance testing. Awaiting replacement. Site operations is currently reviewing the documentation and training on this system. Activation to operations is not yet scheduled. Lidars: Micro Pulse Lidar: NASA Loaner Instrument: Operational for the reporting period. SGP CART Instrument: The CART instrument was installed by Stan Scott last week. We understand that data from this new system will be collected and stored within the instrument computer during the ARESE IOP. The program was having difficulty staying operational during the week. Site operations re-booted the instrument several times. The mentor requested site ops to correct a software error and this was successful. The instrument was Operational as of Friday 9/22. Raman Lidar System: The instrument arrived at the SGP CF on Wednesday 9/13/95 and was placed on it's permanent concrete mounting pad at IDP3 on Thursday 9/14/95. Setup and activation of the instrument for ARESE continued this week. Other Radar Systems: Millimeter Cloud Radar System: The PRR/ORR Master Schedule indicates a target installation Dec 21-28, 95. Intermediate Facility 915 Mhz RWP/RASS. Site location and lease initiation activities have continued for the 3 new intermediate facilities. Infrared Interferometers: AERI01: Operational during the reporting period. SORTI00: The mentor has requested no operation of the instrument until further notice. The instrument continues to remain off line during this reporting period. SORTI01: The initial PRR has been completed by the Mentor and is currently in review. Aerosol Observation System: Construction of the facility has begun with the excavation and pouring of concrete footers to support the stack guy wires. Six 30 inch diameter holes, six feet deep were dug around the Aerosol Trailer, and filled with concrete. The construction contractor will return on September 25 to start construction and installation of the stack assemblies. Calibration Facility: Design work continues on this system.
