Description/Abstract | Investigations on frothless ion flotation of europium, thulium, and ytterbium in the form of microcolloidal hydroxides from aqueous ammonium chloride solutions, and also in the form of anionic complexes with citric acid, as a function of flotation time, hydrogen ions, NH/sub 4/Cl, and citric acid concentrations were carried out.Anionic and cationic detergents sodium tetradecyl sulphate and cetylpyridinium bromide were used as the collectors.Isooctyl alcohol covering the surfaces of the floated solutions was the froth destructing agent and the solvent of the floated complexes.The results of the investigations show that the rare earth elements float in the form of microcolloidal hydrolysis products with the aid of anionic collectors with the maximum recovery at about pH 5. The recovery by flotoextraction strongly decreases with a rise of NH/sub 4/Cl concentration and decreases also with increasing flotation tlme above some optimum.Citrate complexes of Eu, Tm, and Yb float ln the alkaline medium with the aid of cationic collectors, reaching a maximum recovery at pH of about 10.5.The recovery by flotoextraction decreases with an increase of ammonium citrate concentration.Measuremerts of surface tensions of the floated solutions were carried out as a function of cetylpyridinium bromide concentration in order to correlate the flotation recovery with the adsorption of the collector at airsolution interface.(auth) |
