fornia. This system augments a central boiler that provides several buildings with hot water for space heating as well as domestic use. This system heats water for the kitchen, bathing, and laundry facilities, supplying 7.2 billion Btus of thermal energy annually to the 5100-inmate prison. District systems such as this one will generally not include storage - contributing only when they are actually operating - so will meet a smaller portion of the load than the 50% to 60% typical for systems including storage. The system is part of the SI Program's Solar Process Heat Monitoring Project begun in 1994.
