SNOWE STATEMENT ON DEATH IN AFGHANISTAN OF CAPTAIN PATRICK DAMON OF FALMOUTH, MAINE

WASHINGTON, D.C.– U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) today expressed her deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Captain Patrick Damon of Falmouth. Damon suffered a non-hostile related, fatal heart attack today, June 15, 2006 while serving in Bagram, Afghanistan.

“I was deeply saddened to learn of the Captain Patrick Damon’s death while serving his country in Afghanistan,” said Snowe. “My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones who are suffering through this difficult time. Captain Damon served his country as a member of the Maine Army National Guard and his sacrifice and selfless commitment to protecting our freedom will never be forgotten.”

Captain Damon served as a member of the 240th Engineering Group in Afghanistan. He is survived by his wife Hildi Haley-Damon and their two young children.
