Frimout as payload specialist for the ATLAS-1 spacelab mission, now set for flight early next year. ATLAS (Atmospheric Laboratory for Applications and Science) missions are scheduled to fly over the next 11 years to study the interaction of the Earth's atmosphere with the Sun, and are an element of NASA's Mission to Planet Earth program. Frimout replaces Michael K. Lampton, who became disqualified for flight for medical reasons. Lampton will remain with the mission team and serve as alternate payload specialist. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * NASA will host a science writer's workshop on the Mission to Planet Earth and the Earth Observing System tomorrow morning at Kennedy Space Center. The workshop is intended to complement briefings occurring today on the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite. UARS is the first of a series of spacecraft to be launched which constitute the space element of the Mission to Planet Earth program. The workshop will feature NASA science chief Dr. Len Fisk, Earth science director Dr. Shelby Tilford, and EOS project scientists and managers. The briefings begin at 10:00 am and last through noon. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Marshall Space Flight Center reports that their on-line computerized aerospace data base for educators -- Spacelink -- was accessed 6,667 times last month, the second highest monthly tally since the service began.
