Piegan Pass Trail and Feather Plume Falls - August 25, 2001 | |
|
|
On Saturday, August 25th the morning skies were clear and cloudless, which made for great hiking over Piegan Pass. Blackfoot and Jackson Glaciers can be seen in the distance. Large JPG files of this and the other images on this page are available by clicking on the photos.

Park scientists are still debating whether Piegan Glacier, on the slopes of Piegan Mountain, is really still a glacier. Estimates are that from 30 to 50 small glaciers still exist in the park, but careful monitoring will need to be done to get an exact count.

The Siyeh Bend area of the Going-to-the-Sun Road can be seen in the valley bottom.

Feather Plume Falls cascades over a large expanse of the Grinnell Formation. This mostly reddish colored argillite is found thoughout the park.
