Narragansett Bay Reserve, Rhode Island

Hope Island Component

Hope Island is located three miles south of Patience Island and 1.5 miles west of Prudence Island.

The entire 91-acre island is included within the reserve’s boundaries. The island's topography is very irregular, with numerous low hills, ledges and rocky outcrops.

Cultural History


Maximum elevation is 60 feet. The shoreline is generally steep and rocky.

Approximately 3/4 mile of abandoned military roads serve as a trail around the perimeter of the island. The island is closed in spring and summer, during the nesting season of colonial wading birds.
