FOR RELEASE: July 13, 1994 CONTACT: John Barclay (202) 208-3983 SPECIAL INFORMATION INTERIOR DEPARTMENT MUSEUM FEATURES "TREASURES BENEATH THE SEA" (#40053) A new, interactive video display and a scale model of an offshore natural gas and oil production platform are being featured at the Interior Department's Museum through September. Entitled, "Treasures Beneath the Sea," the exhibit highlights the activities of the Interior Department's Minerals Management Service (MMS). The display features photographs, maps and charts which describe the energy and nonenergy resources found beneath the nation's Outer Continental Shelf. It depicts how and where these resources are found and developed, and how royalties collected from them supplement such national priorities as the Land and Water Conservation Fund, the Historic Preservation Fund and the U.S. Treasury. MMS is the agency which manages and regulates the nation's natural gas, oil and other mineral resources on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS), and which collects and disburses revenues from OCS leases and from onshore leases on Federal and Indian lands. The Museum is located on the south end of the first floor of the Interior Building, 1849 C Street, NW, Washington, DC. It is open free to the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except for Federal holidays. Visitors must present some form of photo identification (such as a driver's license, student ID or employment card) when entering the Interior Building. -MMS- Subject: PR-7/13/94 Interactive Video/Interior Department Museum Features "Treasures Beneath the Sea" (#40053)
