Transmission coefficients for neutrons and protons 6323 1451 38 were obtained from an optical potential for rare earth elements 6323 1451 39 developed by F. Dietrich and using the ECIS code. The 6323 1451 40 transmission coefficients for alpha particles were obtained from 6323 1451 41 the optical potential of Avrigeanu, et.al. Those for deuterons 6323 1451 42 are from the optical potential of Lohr and Haeberli. Alpha and 6323 1451 43 deuteron transmission coefficients were calculated using the 6323 1451 44 SCAT2 routine. An enhanced generalized Lorentzian is assumed for 6323 1451 45 the E1 photon strength function, and is normalized to measured or 6323 1451 46 systematic values of the average total s-wave radiation width at 6323 1451 47 the neutron binding energy. 6323 1451 48 6323 1451 49 Backshifted Fermi gas level density parameters are derived from 6323 1451 50 measured s-wave resonance spacings where available. For other 6323 1451 51 nuclei, systematic values are adopted. At low energies a constant 6323 1451 52 temperature form is adopted, and the two formulae are matched at 6323 1451 53 an energy between the backshift and the neutron binding energy so 6323 1451 54 as to give the best possible fit to known spectroscopic levels. 6323 1451 55 6323 1451 56 Discrete levels are taken from the Reference Input Parameter 6323 1451 57 Library (RIPL) with additional evaluations performed by R.
