Description/Abstract Studies on the genetics of murine and human leukemia revealed striking differences between the two types. The importance of genetic factors in human leukemia was shown by studies on twins, mongols, and other high-incidence groups. The relation of high doses of radiation to leukemogenic activity is pointed out.Analyses of data on leukemia in children indicate a multifactorial etiology.Evidence exists for the presence of many factors in man that are etiologically relevant in the mouse.Peak incidences of leukemia in man in relation to age are discussed.Of all types of leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia is not caused by radiation; the genetic background of this type is unusually evident.(HLW)
