Two cases of CNS disease etiologically associated with HIV-2 infection has been reported, most cases of CNS impairment corresponding to opportunistic infections. We report the case of a 15 years old Caucasian male, presenting a chronic uveitis of non determined cause for the last 3 years. In the last 3,5 months progressive pyramidal and cerebellar signals and symptoms developed, more marked in the lower limbs, with hipoestesia on the right lower limb and discrete hepatomegaly. A corticoid trial was innefective. The CSF was sterile showing increased protein and mononuclear cells, and IgG intrathecal synthesis. HIV-2 testing was positive by ELISA (ELAVIA-II Pasteur) and by Western-Blot (LAV BLOT Pasteur). ELISA for HIV-1 was negative. In the cultures of mononuclear blood cells the electron microscopic observation showed the presence of HIV particles. Serology of both parents was negative for HIV-2, and the propositus had no hetero- or homosexual activity. The only risk factor for a HIV infection was a blood transfusion at 6 months of age. This case shows the long incubation period and stresses the proteiform nature of HIV's infection of the CNS.
