LE CENTER LEADER: Hearing from lawmakers

Congressman Kline hosts town meeting in Le Center

June 15, 2008

This newspaper article appeared in the Le Center Leader on June 12, 2008:

Minnesota House Representative Laura Brod and U. S. Congressman John Kline visited with a few Le Center residents during a town meeting.

Kline told those gathered he was in the Marine Corp. for 25 years and then helped his father-in-law farm 540 acres in Houston County.

He then got into politics.

Kline said, "Nothing much is getting accomplished in Washington." He was asked about the oil available in Colorado and why it isn't being tapped into, the farm bill, an energy bill and renewable energy.

Brod said that we need to be looking to ways to produce coal. "It is said that there is enough coal for 300 years worth of energy," said Brod. "We need to provide an incentive to find a way to produce this coal to make it a cleaner, environmentally friendly product."

Brod also said that she is for Racino and moving slot machines into Canterbury Downs. "Gambling isn't going down and is expanding everyday," said Brod.
