The world optimistically looked on this morning as Prime Minister Sharon and President Abbas shook hands. This is a fragile opportunity and commitments must be kept. The Palestinian Authority must prove it can uproot the infrastructure of terror and move forward with widespread democratic reforms. Governments that reject terror and embrace democracy have a friend in the United States. Mr. Abbas must now prove his friendship by making good on promises his predecessors left unfulfilled. |
