Description

This CD-ROM contains the data taken by the Giotto spacecraft during its 10 July 1992 encounter with comet 26P/Grigg-Skjellerup. The CD contains data (in the form of tables) from the Dust Impact Detector, Energetic Particle Analyzer, Ion Mass Spectrometer, Johnstone Plasma Analyser, Magnetometer, and Optical Probe Experiment as well as time series data from the Radio Science Experiment. No Giotto images are on the CD (because the imaging device was not operable due to damage incurred during the comet Halley encounter) but a collection of 35 Earth-based CCD images of comet 26P/Grigg-Skjellerup are included.

The CD-ROM contains the following datasets:

EAR-C-CCD-3-RDR-GRIGG-SKJELL-V1.0 - Earth-based CCD telescopic images of comet 26P/Grigg-Skjellerup.

GIO-C-DID-3-RDR-GRIGG-SKJELL-V1.0 - Table of dust impact from the Dust Impact Detector.

GIO-C-EPA-3-RDR-GRIGG-SKJELL-V1.0 - Table of particle counts from the Energetic Particle Analyzer.

GIO-C-GRE-3-RDR-GRIGG-SKJELL-V1.0 - Radio Science Experiment time series of frequency and amplitude residuals.

GIO-C-IMS-3-RDR-HIS-GRIGG-SKJELL-V1.0 - Table of high intensity particle flux from the Ion Mass Spectrometer.

GIO-C-JPA/MAG-4-RDR-GRIGG-SKJELL-V1.0 - Table of combined particle flux and field components from the Johnstone Plasma Analyser and Magnetometer.

GIO-C-JPA-3-RDR-IIS-GRIGG-SKJELL-V1.0 - Table of particle flux from the Johnstone Plasma Analyser.

GIO-C-MAG-4-RDR-GRIGG-SKJELL-V1.0 - Table of field components from the Magnetometer.

GIO-C-OPE-3-RDR-GRIGG-SKJELL-V1.0 - Table of intensities from the Optical Probe Experiment.

All files are in PDS format. Supporting files include spacecraft and instrument descriptions, documents, searchable indices, a mission ephemeris, and software tools. This is CD volume EU_ESA_DSCI_GEM_0001 produced by the European Space Agency and the Small Bodies Node of NASA's Planetary Data System. The CD can be ordered through the NSSDC CD-ROM catalog at:
