Administrator Christie Whitman recently encouraged everyone to participate in local water quality monitoring activities during National Water Monitoring Day on Oct. 18 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act.

Final Arsenic Rule Implementation Guidance Available

The final implementation guidance for the "Arsenic Rule-Drinking Water Regulations for Arsenic and Clarifications to the Compliance and New Source Monitoring" is available on EPA’s website at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/ars/implement.html. "Consider The Source: A Pocket Guide to Protecting Your Drinking Water”

Third in a series of outreach and assistance publications, this Pocket Guide includes a discussion of the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act regulatory and voluntary resources, tools, management measures, and finances sources available to States, local governments, and consumers. The guide also provides information on the integration efforts of the Underground Injection Control program with the Source Water Protection program. EPA Cruise Ship Tracking Survey

The Environmental Protection Agency conducted a Cruise Ship Plume Tracking field survey during August off the Florida Coast in response to a series of public hearings in 2000. The information from this survey will be incorporated into the draft discharge assessment report which should be available for public review in a few months. Please send questions or comments regarding the plume tracking report to Cruise.Ships@epa.gov.

International Interest in Underground Injection Control (UIC)

Work Group Looks at Contaminant Candidate List Classification Process

The National Drinking Water Advisory Council Working Group on the Contaminate Candidate List Classification Process will help EPA develop the process to identify and evaluate contaminants which may be necessary to regulate in drinking water.
