The Uruguayan Ministry of Agriculture (MGAP) requested
the Argentine Animal Health Service (SENASA) for cooperation in
a visit to a Methyl Bromide (MB) fumigation facility for the treatment
of blueberries in Concordia, Argentina. The United States Department
of Agriculture – Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service
(USDA-APHIS) was on hand to answer question from the MGAP officials
regarding the operation of the fumigation chamber and the exportation
to the US of treated blueberries. Uruguay foresees the eventual
approval to export their blueberries to the US under the required
fumigation treatment for Ceratitis capitata and Anastrepha fraterculus,
which are two pests that have been proven to attack blueberries
in this region of South America.
