Crater

Question: When a meteorite hits the moon, I notice that the crater is still
there but what happens to the meteorite? The same thing in Arizona, where
there is a big crater, what happened to that meteorite?
------------------------------------------------
The meteorite breaks up into little pieces; some of it may also
vaporize. Many pieces of the one responsible for the Arizona crater have been
found.
