Stowaway Found in Crate Aboard Cargo Flight From Bahamas

contacts for this news releaseMIAMI, FLA – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), responded to an air cargo facility, late Tuesday night at Miami International Airport, after employees there reported discovering a young woman hiding in a wooden crate as it was being off-loaded from a cargo jet. The crate was the size of small file cabinet, approximately, 36”D x 26”H x 18”W.
The woman a Cuban National in her twenties, apparently with the assistance of others, shipped herself to the United States from Nassau, Bahamas.She is currently being interviewed and processed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection to determine her immigration status and the circumstances surrounding her unusual arrival in the United States. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control, and protection of our Nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
