Washington, D.C.- U.S. Third District Congressman Frank Lucas welcomed Enid native Gabriel Lade to Washington today, as Gabriel begins serving as a page for the U.S. House of Representatives.
Gabriel will be working for the House during the summer through July. He will assist with day-to-day operations on the House floor, and serve as a messenger delivering legislative material to offices on Capitol Hill. Gabriel is also one of four “documentarians” on the House floor, with such memorable tasks as ringing the bell to call Members of Congress to vote, and raising and lowering the American flag over the House of Representatives at the start and end of each legislative day.
“The Congressional Page program is a great experience for young people interested in how our laws are made,” Lucas said, “The pages are among the few people allowed on the House floor during legislative debate, so Gabriel will be on the front lines of the legislative process.”
Gabriel is a senior at Enid High School. He participates in numerous student activities, including debate, academic team, and mock trial team. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, and the Superintendent’s Honor Roll. He is the son of Harry and Gretchen Cole-Lade of Enid.
Congressman Lucas nominated Gabriel as one of about 150 pages nationwide to serve for the U.S. House of Representatives this summer. Applicants must submit to Lucas a copy of their most recent student transcript, an essay, a resume, and at least three letters of recommendation along with their written application. Each year Lucas and his staff review the applications and recommend the most qualified applicant for nomination. Congressman Lucas will soon be accepting applications for pages next year. Students who would like to apply can contact his Washington office at (202) 225-5565. |
