Process_Step: Process_Description: Stratigraphic data were compiled in a Stratifact relational database. These data were correlated and the coal beds were identified. Stratigraphic data for the coal and rock units in the coal zone were downloaded from Stratifact and run through a custom "parting/split" program to calculate net coal thickness at each data location. This dataset was then linked to all available coal quality samples on the following parameters. The latitude and longitude, surface elevation, and coal top and bottom (thickness) for each coal location was compared to the latitude and longitude, surface elevation, and coal top and bottom (thickness) each stratigraphic location. When a match was found, the two files were given the same identification code. This identification code linked both the stratigraphic and coal quality databases. Coal quality data that could not be match with the corresponding stratigraphic data was only utilized for summary tables and bubble maps. This joined dataset was then imported into ArcView and converted to a shapefile.
