Office of Refuge Law Enforcement Transfers Rifles to West Virginia Division of Natural Resources
Northeast Region, February 9, 2006
Print Friendly Version
The Office of Refuge Law Enforcement (ORLE) recently transferred approximately 262 Ruger Mini-14 rifles to the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR).  The transfer was part of a three phase national weapons reduction process that has been ongoing for three years.  Refuge Officers from Region 5 assisted in the transfer, which took place at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, WV.  The ORLE replaced the Rugers with Colt and Bushmaster 223 cal rifles which have been issued to refuge officers in the field.  The Rugers will be issued immediately to field officers according to WVDNR representatives.  This is a great example of one agency assisting another sister conservation agency.  The rifles were transferred free of charge to WVDNR through the oversight of the GSA Property Management Division.   Approximately 30 additional Ruger Mini-14’s are remaining in the national cache, they will be distributed to several various law enforcement agencies across the country.
