Predeparture Workshop for High School Exchange Students
June 10, 2008. As part of the U.S. consulate’s "MeetUS" school outreach program, intern Christine Cosson offered an intercultural predeparture orientation workshop about "High School and Family Life in the U.S." for 31 students of the Europa-Gymnasium Wörth on the Rhine. The students, aged 16-17, will spend 3 weeks in September/October at high schools in Rochester and Niantic in Illinois, staying with American host families. Having graduated from her high school in Tallahassee, Florida, only a year ago, Christine filled the students in on all aspects of American high school and family life, including curricular and extra-curricular activities, socializing, youth culture, dress codes, as well as the do's and don’t’s both in school and outside. At the conclusion of the workshop, she presented the teachers with a comprehensive information package put together by Frankfurt’s Information Resource Center.
