The U.S. Embassy in Singapore is seeking an individual for the position of Registered Nurse (WAE) in the Regional Medical Office (RMO).

When-Actually-Employed (WAE); this is not a full time position, incumbent does not have an established standard workweek but will work on an “as needed” basis only

Duties & Responsibilities:  This position serves as the mission When-Actually-Employed (WAE) nursing care provider.  The position is located in the Embassy Regional Medical Office (RMO) and is under the direct supervision of the Regional Medical Officer. This position provides the full range of professional nursing services to American and Locally Employed Staff when required.

Qualifications Required:

  1. Must be a graduate of a professional nursing school or college that has the equivalent of RN training in the U.S. and eligible to be fully credentialed/licensed in Singapore.
  2. At least one year of hospital or outpatient nursing is required.
  3. Must possess basic nursing skills, such as vital signs measurement, injection administration, bedside nursing care and must be familiar with American nursing standards of care.
  4. Must have strong interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to function comfortably in a busy out-patient setting and the ability to promote a professional and compassionate atmosphere appropriate for this overseas clinic. Must be able to work independently at times with only telephone connection with the Regional Medical Officer.
  5. Level IV (Fluent) oral and written English communication skills is required.
  6. Ability to assist with secretarial and receptionist duties as needed, including basic word processing skills on a computer is required.

Selection Process:

When equally qualified, U.S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (AEFMs) and U.S. Veterans will be given preference.  Therefore, it is essential that the candidate address the required qualifications above in the application.

Additional Selection Criteria:

  1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
  2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
  3. Currently Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of “Needs Improvement” or “Unsatisfactory” in their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply.
  4. Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
  5. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
