New Book about Alaska

During CG's August 25 - September 1 trip to Alaska Mary Miller, Superintendent of the Sitka National Historical Park presented the Consulate with "Anooshi Lingit Aani Ka, Russians in Tlingit America: The Battles of Sitka".  The book tells the story of the pivotal battles between Alaskan natives and Russian fur traders and the events that were "seminal in the multicultural history of Alaska and ultimately the history of America."  Sitka was the home of the Russian Orthodox Bishop and houses a museum dedicated to Tlingit and Russian history and culture.  The newly published book contains native oral tradition transcripts and Russian accounts of the battles and encounters between the two cultures.  The book will be available in the Vladivostok American Corner at the Primorye regional library  for scholars and anyone interested in Russian America and native Alaskan events.
