EOF/MEDOC SOHO Daily Meeting Minutes May 22, 1997 Notes: Rai Wu (UVCS/EOF) and Ester Antonucci (MEDOC) ANNOUNCEMENTS: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tomorrow's meetings: Daily - 13:00 UT Weekly - 13:30 UT SPWG - 14:00 UT in EAF FOT BRIEFING: ~~~~~~~~~~~~ S/C Status: Nominal except RCVR 1 Anomaly Summary: None Accomplished Activities: RSL, VIRGO, VC 2 TT, RCVR 1 used on D27 Planned Activities: RSL, Virgo, SWAN, Nom HGA, VC 2 via TT, LGA for D27 Tesing HGA w/ D27 inconclusive. Future D27 passes on LGA unless request by EXP Teams Ground System Anomaly Summary: 141/2325 Trouble locking HGA RCVR 1 D27, 43 min no cmding DSS-27 and instrument commanding: DSS-27 only has 200 W of uplink power. This in combination with commanding on receiver #2 (coupled to the low-gain antenna) has resulted in instruments having problems getting their commands uplinked. The FOT can acquire receiver #1 and the high gain antenna for instrument commanding; however, this takes time (~40 minutes) and involves other technical issues. In short, instrument teams must tell the SOC 3 hours prior to DSS-27 AOS if they want to command on that DSS-27 pass so that the FOT can schedule the extended sweep. SOLAR STATUS: ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Extended prominence at Eastern limb, in the southern hemisphere, several present, large active regions likely to flare on disk. - CME at approximately 2100 UT last night on the West limb - AR 8402 flare (M0) at ~2200 UT - Darkening south of that region maybe indicative of another CME - Loop structures connecting AR 8402 and small dipole trailing it. - Geomagnetic storm conditions forecast - Type 2 radio bursts - Possible halo event? Status GBO (JOP 9) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THEMIS : supposed to run normally tomorrow PIC-DU-MDI : ready to support JOP 09 with high cadency coronal images INSTRUMENT STATUS: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CDS: Nominal, nice observations of the AR at Western limb in several lines; data from network boundary observations, run on May 21, look very satisfactory. SUMER: Nominal, supported JOP 9 observations EIT: Nominal, activity in the AR on disk. Tomorrow EIT will run its 'shutterless mode' program from 15-16 UT and will submit an OCD to move the normal SVM time from 14:30-15 to 14:00-14:30 so they can use from 14:30-15 to prepare for the shutterless mode. Study also involves SUMER and CDS who wish to avoid flaring regions UVCS Nominal Streamer Abundance study: PA 80 @ 3.5 Rsun for ~3 hours with UVCS/Ulysses coordinated pB measurements only during last hour Observation PA 80 @ 4.5 Rsun for ~6 hours with pB measurements only during last 4 hours Synoptic LASCO Nominal. Saw CME on W Linmb at ~ 2100 UT MDI Nominal Continuous contact Observed mixed flux in AR the crossed central meridian Trailing dipole beginning to grow May 23 Planning : JOP 9 : - Target selected for JOP 09 : South-East prominence ; coordinates (-683, - 678), position angle 135 degrees, S45, E85. CDS : - JOP 9 - Network boundary observations near disk center (12 h - 15 h) - Joint Active Region Observation. (15 h - 18 h) - Sunspot observations leading sunspot of the same AR (18h - 18:30) - Active network observations at South of the same AR - Active network observations at South of AR jointly with SUMER SUMER : Slit repositioning on AR : - AR boundary study (7 h - 12 h) - Joint AR observations. (15 h - 18 h) (560, 110 SUMER slit) - Sunspot observations leading sunspot in the same AR - Active network observations South of AR jointly with CDS EIT: - AR joint observation - (possibly sunspot joint observation)
