Book Fair - DK Learning

Looking for educational books, CD's, tapes, and videos and other learning tools? Visit the book fair on December 7, and 8 in the West Lobby from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is a great time to get those special gifts to challenge the children (and adults) on your list. Headquarters Holiday Reception

Headquarters Annual Holiday Reception will be held December 16. The program begins at 12 noon in the HQ Auditorium. Join in the fun and merriment of the season. Winners of the Weigh-in contest, the door decorating contest, and the Exchange Store $50 Gift Certificate drawing will be announced during the event. Contact: Lenore McGraw, 358-1444.

Exchange Store Holiday Contest

Win a $50.00 gift certificate to Giant Food Stores. For every $10 you spend in the store between December 1 and December 16, you can enter your name in the drawing. The winner will be announced at the Holiday Reception on December 16. Contact: Lenore McGraw, 358-1444.

Salvation Army Food Collection

November 29-December 15. Boxes will be placed in the East and West Lobbies for collecting canned and non-perishable food items. Be sure items are unopened and have not passed their expiration date. Contact: Rita Moore, 358-2077

Toys for Tots

November 29-December 20. In conjunction with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation, collection boxes will be available in the East and West lobbies for collecting new toys in original packaging. Please do not wrap any items. No food items or toys that resemble weapons (i.e.-knives, guns, etc.) can be accepted. Contact: Juli Croson, 358-4602.

Holiday Weigh-In Contest

November 29-December 15. Collection containers for this year's Holiday Weigh-in contest will be distributed to each single letter Code. The Code collecting the most coins in weight wins the travelling trophy. Proceeds will benefit "So Others Might Eat" (SOME). Contact: Lenore McGraw, 358-1444.

1999 Contest Rules/Guidelines

  • The purpose of this contest is to see which single letter code or prime contractor organization collects the most money in weight.
  • The single letter code or prime contractor collecting the most money in weight will win the "Traveling Trophy."
  • The contest will run from November 29 - December 15, 1999. All containers must be brought to the West Lobby for "weighing-in" at 10:00 a.m. on December 16, 1999.
  • The only containers that can be used will be provided by the HQ Exchange Council. If the container gets full before the ending date, call Rita Moore, x2077, and she will provide you with an additional container. Only one container at a time will be provided to each single letter code or prime contractor.
  • Containers should be strategically placed in the Code.
  • The winner will be announced at the Holiday Reception on Thursday, December 16, 1999.

Door Decorating Contest

December 10-16, 1999. The door decorating contest is open to all organizations at Headquarters and you can win a pizza party for your entire code! This year's theme is "Peaceful Reflections." Rules and entry forms will be distributed on November 29. Submit entry forms by December 10 to Rita Moore, Code G, in Rm. 9W38. Doors must be decorated by December 10. The winner will be announced at the Holiday Reception on December 16. Contact: Rita Moore, 358-2077.

1999 Contest Rules/Guidelines

  • The contest is open to everyone housed in the Headquarters building.
  • Only one entry per single letter code may be submitted for the contest.
  • All materials must be fire retardant/fire proof.
  • Electrical devices, lights, or parts are prohibited.
  • Lit candles, burning, smoldering, or smoking materials are prohibited.
  • Only the metal office or entrance doors may be decorated. No glass doors, copy room doors, stairwell doors, or elevator doors may be decorated. The only exception is the entrance to the Code A Suite.
  • Only the door and the frame may be included in the decoration. Do not attach anything to the walls, floor, or
  • ceiling. Do not hang anything from the ceiling.
  • Nothing can be attached to the door frame that will damage the finish.
  • Use of NASA graphics services is prohibited.
  • Entry forms must be submitted by December 3, 1999, to Rita Moore, Code G, Room 9W38, x2077.
  • All doors must be decorated by December 10 to qualify.
  • The first place winner will be awarded a Pizza Party for the entire Code.
  • Winners will be announced at the Holiday Reception on Thursday, December 16, 1999.

Children's Holiday Party

This year's Children's Holiday party, featuring a visit with Mr. & Mrs. Claus, will be held Saturday, December 11, GSFC's Building 8 Auditorium. The cost is $7 per child ($1 for each adult) and is open to children ages 8 and under. Other features include gifts, refreshments, clowns, face painting, Disney animated classics theater, and more! Tickets go on sale in the Exchange Store November 30-December 6 (checks only please). Contact: Debbie Randall, 358-1173.

Hat, Scarf and Glove Collection

November 29-December 15, hats, scarves, and gloves will be collected. Boxes will be placed in the East and West Lobbies. All items must be new. Items collected will be donated to a local shelter. Contact: Rita Moore, 358-2077.

New Year's Eve Millennium Gala

December 31, 1999. This premier evening at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Recreation Center will feature dinner, continental breakfast, beverages, band/dancing, party favors, and a champagne toast at midnight with complimentary 2000 toasting flute. Contact : Debbie Randall, 358-1173.
